Non-Muslims should support Syariah law, says NDP president

NON-Muslims should accept and give moral support in the implementation of the Syariah Law, even if they are exempted from the law, said Haji Mahmud Morshidi Othman, President of the National Development Party (NDP).

“Non-Muslims, especially those residing in the border areas and remote villages, should cooperate with the government in ensuring the country’s security and harmony,” he added during a working visit to Temburong recently.

During a dialogue session, he also reminded everyone to be loyal to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, especially whenever the country faced challenges.

During the visit, he was greeted by a delegation led by Hj Zaini bin Bakar, Vice-President of NDP Temburong District.

Among those present were Hj Juned bin Hj Ramli, Deputy President of NDP Temburong District; Haji Mohidin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, Vice-President of NDP Brunei-Muara District; Haji Mahdi bin Haji Muhd Suhaili, Deputy Chairman of NDP Temburong District; Haji Jefry bin Daud, Secretary-General of the National Development Party; Hj Ismail bin Ibrahim, Adviser of the National Development Party; and several of council members.

The delegation then proceeded to Kampong Sumbiling Lama to survey the longhouses there which were gutted in a fire in July last year.

Ambon Anak Tarang, who represented the victims of the blaze, expressed hope for the authorities to help rebuild their razed homes as soon as possible.

The delegation also stopped by the paddy fields in Pedayan and Kampong Negalang Unat, where farmers expressed their gratitude to the Government of His Majesty for providing rice subsidies.
