THE vision of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on democracy has brought prosperity, stability and positive achievements in Brunei, said Dr RM Marty M Natalegawa, Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, yesterday.
Speaking exclusively to The Brunei Times at the conclusion of the fourth Bali Democracy Forum (BDF) at the Bali International Convention Centre (BICC) yesterday, the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister explained why it was important for Brunei Darussalam to participate at the BDF.
The minister said Brunei, in fact His Majesty, personally has been very supportive of the effort ever since the beginning.
"I think Brunei's participation throughout has always added value," Dr RM Marty M Natalegawa said. The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister said that Brunei has been able to present and remind that the meaning of democracy is multi-faceted in its form.
"There is no size that fits all. Different countries, different societies have different ways of practising and manifesting democracy," said Dr RM Marty M Natalegawa.
He said over the years, we have learned from His Majesty, how his vision, Brunei's vision of democracy has been.
"It (Brunei's vision of democracy) has brought prosperity, stability and other positive achievements in your country (Brunei)," said Dr RM Marty M Natalegawa.
Talking about His Majesty's titah that was delivered at the leaders session on the opening day of the fourth BDF, Dr RM Marty M Natalegawa said: "His Majesty put things in context and reminded us about the ASEAN dimension. I am glad that he did." His Majesty was especially kind in referring to Indonesia's efforts as chair of ASEAN this year and reminded that within ASEAN the subject of democracy and human rights etc has been discussed. It makes it more complete, Dr RM Marty Natalegawa added.
