Be proactive, Islamic literature writers told
Diyana Ibrahim

WRITERS of Islamic Literature should not wait for the competition events to drive them to write but instead should be sincere and original in the literary endeavour at any time.
This was said by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Yang Berhormat Pg Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad Pg Hj Abdul Rahman, yesterday during the Islamic Literature Night held to mark Isra' Mikraj at the State Legislative Council building on Saturday, July 7.
YB Pg Dato Dr Hj Mohammad explained that Islamic literature is a tool of da'wah (propagation) used to shape a community with strong iman (faith). "(It) is da'wah literature, iman literature, tauhid literature, literature that eventually aims to bring goodness into the world and the hereafter, literature that stands upon the platform of Al-'Amru Bil Ma'rif Wan-Nahyu 'Anil Munkar' (the path of goodness and away from evil)," he said.
"Because of these, Islamic Literature is a literature of development, a literature that supports the development of the world and the hereafter, the physical and spiritual development... (and) foster pure ethical and aesthetic values to build a true model individual," he said.
He admitted that to find such talented writers can be "difficult" but "not impossible".
"InsyaAllah, we will have them in the future," he said, adding that as a Zikir Nation, Brunei has all the right factors from making Islam as core education to having an Islamic culture to give birth to these talents.
"In this way, we are also supporting, even making the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) concept more understandable and accepted by the current and future generations through literature."
He emphasised that writers are also statesmen, legislators, administrators, educators, intellectuals, experts in religion, culture and history and Islamic thinkers, whose voices are heard "on air" and writings published in newspapers and books.
