Clinton arriving in Brunei on Sept 6
Rachel Thien
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
UNITED States Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton (pic) will be visiting Brunei from September 6 to 7 to meet senior officials and discuss about Brunei's 2013 chairmanship of ASEAN, as well as to emphasise the importance of the "increasingly vibrant US-Brunei relationship", the US embassy in Brunei said yesterday.
Clinton's visit was also confirmed by a senior official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Her visit to Brunei will be a part of her series of visits beginning today with the Cook Islands, followed by Indonesia, China, Timor-Leste and Russia.
According to a press statement by State Department, Clinton will also be highlighting the US-Brunei ASEAN English Language initiative once she lands in the Sultanate.
Prior to her visit here, Clinton will be in Jakarta on September 3 to discuss with senior Indonesian officials on US-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership, among others.
In Beijing, China from September 4 to 5, the Secretary of State will meet senior Chinese leaders to discuss a wide range of issues of importance in their bilateral relationship.
This is in a bid to build a cooperative partnership, including preparations for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), among others.
Following her visits to Dili, Timor-Leste and Brunei, Secretary Clinton will lead the US delegation in Vladivostok, Russia, for the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting on September 8 and 9.
The State Secretary will discuss trade liberalisation, food security, and green growth including initiatives to fight wildlife trafficking, with heads of state and other regional leaders, including business representatives.
