Send-off for 9th IMT contingent
Rabiatul Kamit
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
THE latest Bruneian contingent in the International Monitoring Team (IMT) began their year-long deployment to Mindanao, Philippines, after a send-off ceremony at the Rimba Air Base yesterday.
According to the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), Major General Dato Paduka Seri Hj Aminuddin Ihsan Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Hj Abidin, the Sultanate's participation in the IMT contributes towards the region's peace and stability.
"It gives us a wider spectrum of experience in accordance to the agendas in our Defence White Paper," he said.
The commander noted that it is imperative to build on as well as give priority to the capability and capacity required towards ensuring that the armed forces are "ready to undertake any mission" in the future.
He also lauded the second involvement of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) alongside the armed forces, the combination of which he feels "will give a better impetus into the IMT".
Led by Lieutenant Colonel (L) Spry Hj Serudi @ Hj Seruji, the latest contingent comprise five officers and four other ranks from the RBAF in addition to a member of the RBPF, Assistant Superintendent of Police Pg Muhaimin Pg Mustapha.
Present to attach armbands on each personnel during the send-off ceremony was the Deputy Minister of Defence, Dato Paduka Hj Mustappa Hj Sirat.
